Sulfate Soundness Hydrometers
Sulfate soundness hydrometers measure specific gravity of sulfate solutions to ±0.001 SG. They are available in Sodium Sulfate (MA-168) or Magnesium Sulfate (MA-169)
Soundness testing of aggregate requires repeated immersion cycles. Cycles immerse in sodium sulfate or magnesium sulfate solution. Drying the aggregate concludes the cycle. Re-hydration of the salts simulates expansion of freezing water. Percentage of samples loss is determined with samples being washed, dried and sieved. Stacked sieve holders contain aggregate specimen. Sieve holders immerse into solution buckets containing sulfate solution.
Meets ASTM C88 and AASHTO T104
