Soil specimens mix in a solution of water and sodium hexametaphosphate. Hydrometers measure suspended solids in sedimentation cylinders over time periods of up to 24 hours. The cylinder features a heavy-wall clear glass scribed at the 1,000 ml mark. The optional solid rubber stopper prevents sample loss during agitation.
