Consolidation tests require fixed or floating ring consolidated cells for each testing unit. The floating ring consolidation cells consist of a stainless steel base, with a self-trimming cutter ring. A floating ring differs from the fixed rings with the exception that the lower porous stone fits inside the cutter ring. In addition, the stone moves vertically within the cutter ring.
