Dynamic Cone Penetrometer

The dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) uses a 15lb steel mass falling 20 inches that strikes the anvil to cause penetration of a 1.5″ diameter cone that has been seated in the bottom of a hand augered hole. The Standard Penetration Test derives N values that correlate the blows required to drive the embedded cone a depth of 1.75″.  Additionally, the DCP can be effective in augered holes to depths of 15 to 20 feet.
