The Semi-Circular Bend Test Fixture mounts in most standard Marshall load frames. It determines the low-temperature fracture energy and toughness of asphalt mixtures with a maximum aggregate size of 19mm. Semi-circular asphalt specimens easily cut from Superpave™ Gyratory compacted cylinders or field cores with a diameter of 150mm. The test fixture consists of a 0.5″ thick steel base plate, 2 L-shaped roller support steel blocks, 2 steel rollers, and a U-shaped frame.
Positioned with the flat side on two rollers and a load applied along the vertical diameter of the specimen. To calculate test results measure load and displacement. Polytetrafluoroethylene strips minimize friction of the loading fixture. Initial roller position, maintained by soft springs and backstops, which establish the test span dimension.
