The Semi-Circular Bend Test Fixture mounts in most standard Marshall load frames. It determines the low-temperature fracture energy and toughness of asphalt mixtures with a maximum aggregate size of 19mm.  Semi-circular asphalt specimens easily cut from Superpave™ Gyratory compacted cylinders or field cores with a diameter of 150mm.  The test fixture consists of a 0.5″ thick steel base plate, 2 L-shaped roller support steel blocks, 2 steel rollers, and a U-shaped frame.
Positioned with the flat side on two rollers and a load applied along the vertical diameter of the specimen. To calculate test results measure load and displacement. Polytetrafluoroethylene strips minimize friction of the loading fixture. Â Initial roller position, maintained by soft springs and backstops, which establish the test span dimension.
