Classification Equipment

Classification equipment determines void content, flakiness, elongation, and soft particles in aggregates.  The organic impurities test set finds the possible presence or organic compounds in fine aggregates. Shake samples in a special graduated bottle with a 3% sodium hydroxide solution and then let stand for 24 hours. The void content apparatus determines the uncompacted void content of a fine aggregate sample. The sand equivalent test serves as a rapid field correlation. It shows the relative proportions of clay-like or plastic fines and dusts in granular soils and fine aggregates.  The flakiness gauge uses seven labeled slots for manual evaluations of particles. Each of the seven cuts determine the flakiness of aggregate particles.  In addition, aggregate washers apply gentle agitation to samples in a revolving drum.
